My mother had diverticulitus. With meds it went away. Doctor said she will always have it. It just want be inflamed. My mother has always been a health fanatic. Taking vitamins, green teas, soy products, eating healthy all kinds of stuff. The doctor said it was from either to much fiber or that stomach bacteria (forgot the name). I never really knew you could get to much fiber.

Diverticuli, or "tics" are found anywhere in the bowel. They are small pouches that develop along the walls of the intestines.  Most of the population have tics, but don't know it.  Some people only have a few, some have a whole lot of them.  They are only problematic when food and bacteria get in there and grow up to cause problems.  If you only have a few, they can be surgically removed, but for the most part you will have them always.  High fiber meals can help in keeping the tics cleaned out and sometimes probiotics can help by putting more "good" bacteria in the bowel to combat the "bad" ones and help prevent overgrowth in the bowel.  It is unknown why they occur so they can't be prevented and are thought to be genetic.  You can work with a nutritionist to plan out a good diet for you. You might be able to find one for low or no cost at the local community hospital.  good luck

As far as I,m aware yes you will always have diverticulosis even when diverticulitus has been treated with antibiotics if you dont have them surgically removed. The only thing I will say if it reasures you in anyway is that only a small percentage of people are ever bothered by them becoming inflamed. I guess your a bit like me unlucky in that respect. The two terms are so alike hope I,m not getting confused. If I remember correctly diverticulitus refers to sacs formed and diverticulosis basically means inflamed sacs. Hope this helps a little Shyan and I,m sure someone else will offer their comments. Take Care Chris
