As usual Drnee gives excellent advice.

I had the problem with both big toenails.

The first, which was infected and in terrible shape I had done by a podiatrist, and it healed perfectly!

Then I listened to two physicians who told me I should have never endangered by life by having such a procedure done by a mere podiatrist, whom they viewed with disdain.

The second nail I had done by a "top doctor" in a hospital. The foot became infected with staph, I almost died, and the toenail was so mangled I lost the nail forever.

Is there a moral here?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The simplest would be to soak your feet in warm water to which Epsom salts and hydrogen peroxide are added. Then to apply an antibacterial cream after drying. If this does not help, then the part of the toe nail that is growing inwards needs to be surgically removed.
Hope this helps. Do discuss this with your doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
