An overactive thyroid will cause you to have difficulty gaining weight.  My father had hyperthyroid (overactive) and ended up needing iodine treatments.

re your question "Is it normal to be rather thin when you have thyroid disorder??"
I am slim (not thin) and look good and I believe this is why I was overlooked for thyroid problems for 10 years.

Also you should check your adrenals re lower back pain etc.

Ensure your checks include thyroid antibody check to see if you have auto immune disease which may answer aching joints etc.

Hi.  Your symptoms are typical of thyroid condition.  Have you been tested re thyroid.  Check the thyroid sites.  Also if you have been tested, re-check your results.  Many of us have been told we're in the "normal" range, when the labs are using out of date ranges.  Get a copy of your results and check on all the thyroid boards.

That may make some sense.. I just read that people with thyroid disorders are prone to multiple sinus infections... I have had quite a few. I have big black clumps in my mucous, when I sneeze it out. -Sorry I know that is really gross. I will definately be talking to my Dr.

Good for you for doing your research. You only have to have 4 out of 11 symptoms for a diagnosis. Incedentally, there is such a thing as seronegative autoimmune disease. In other words, it doesn't show up in the blood work. I probably already said this, but if your Dr. won't listen, get a new one FAST!

Systematic Lupus runs in my family. I do not have it-to the best of my knowledge. I did get a referral to a Uroligist, so that is some progress. I will check out the sites .It's so hard to get my Dr to take me seriously, and I have to bring my 1 yr. old with me  to the appts.(we just moved out of state)so her restlessness, doesn't help the dr's patience level.I will definately insist on getting blood tests for both these. I will just demand it - and tell him he can think I am crazy if he wants . Better to be safe than sorry. Thanks again everyone.

Try to get the urologist to do a 24 hour urine collection, and check the acidity levels of your blood.

I will ask him to do the 24 hour urine culture. I went to the Lupus foundation of America.I have a total of 6 of the 11 symptoms, including hairloss. I am also 1/4 native american..it says that native americans are more prone to getting the illness. My grandmother was was full blodd native american, and she died of SLE when she was 33. ( I know that was a long time ago, when there was a lack of treatment options).
I go to the Dr. on Monday, and boy is he gonna get an ear full.

Are you saying that you have systemic lupus, or that it runs in your family? It was unclear. To be blunt, you Dr. is a dunce if he says that protein in your urine is nothing to worry about. Protein in the urine is always of concern, especially considering your other symptoms. To me it sounds like Lupus with kidney involvement. What teats have been run? Any autoimmune panels? Look up Lupus, Distal Renal Tubular Acidosis, and Raynaud's Phenomenon. See if these diseases(which are all linked to each other) don't sound like what you're going through. I say if your Dr. won't take you seriously, get a new one. An internal Medicine Specialist would be your best bet for primary care, and I also suggest a referral to a rheumatologist and a urologist.
