This discussion is related to Right Side Pain- Tests Negative. .

I am 27F, no children, excercise regularly and seem to be relatively "healthy". I do have IBS and have learned my symptoms/management for over 10 years now. 5months ago I started to experience chronic upper right quadrant pain radiating from fron under/on lower right rib to sometimes back side of rib. The pain is always present and otc meds do NOT work. Heat/ice therapy and decreased exercise do not help either. Diet modivications/monitoring also no relief, however given darvocet by ER Dr and pain actually becomes worse approx- 1hour after taking it. A dull aching in right quad. area becomes sharp and extremely uncomfortable. U/S and bloodwork came back clear 3 months ago, and pcp gave vicodin instead for pain. This med too, taken at minimum dose causes pain to be intensified. PCP thought perhaps a ulcer in duondem, and started me on protonix, malox diet to see if improvement. 3weeks later Im still always aching. Sitting sometimes intensifies it creating a need to stretch as if relieving pressure from rib/organs. Also always feel as if there is something "there". A faint pressure/swollen feeling intenally especially when pain is at it's highest. No visual signs externally of either though.  Just a "feeling" and a daily discomfort. Help!! Im soooo tired of always aching right there, and having rxpain med only help for an hour, then making it WORSE. any1 go through this....

Hi:  It really sounds like you may have something called sod- SPHINCTER OF ODDI
it is a muscle between the GB and the pancreas , I believe(I'm not a DR) I think it wraps
around the bile duct and when you have an opiate (percoset, darvon, codeine) for some reason it makes that dull pain - sharper!!
I would see a gastro, who is familiar with the biliary tract, no harm in calling and asking
you'll get quicker results that way, hey It could also be something else, but when you
mentioned the opiate making it worse, that Does happen in SOD....georgie
