vision problems

at times I have a vision problem.  it is like looking through a pin hole.  the outer part of the vision is wavy, like seeing heat raise off of a car in the summer, the very center is clear around the clear part is (not sure how to explain it) < it is points like this all around the circle.  it comes on all of a sudden, sometimes it is only one eye most of the time it is both.  closing my eyes does not help, nor shaking my head.  this happens at times frequently and at other times not for months.  I have been to dr. regarding this, both eye dr and medical dr, they are unable to explain it.  in 2000 it was happening almost every other day, then I had cardiac arrest and it stopped for quite a while.  It can last from a minute to 5 minutes, and I have had to pull over while driving until it passed.  I am not sure if this is related to a heart condition or not but it has started up again.

Was the eye doctor you saw an opthomologist? Did they run lots of tests, like the one for peripheral vision where you look into a computer and have to push a button every time you see a little light flash? Just wondering how in depth that evaluation was. And were those visits recent? If not, technology and knowledge change, and I think I'd want to see an opthomologist known for treating unusual or difficult cases, maybe even at the eye institute of a major research/teaching type facility. I have no idea what is wrong with your vision, but I know if it were me with those symptoms I'd be camping on someone's doorstep telling them not to stop testing until they either had an answer or there was nothing left to test. Hope you let us know what you find out.
