what causes sleep disturbance in boyfriend?

okay i am not sure where this belongs so i put it here. my question is about my boyfriends sleep. he snores quite a bit and i frequently have to wake him to turn over so i can get back to sleep after his loudness has woke me. he also has random bouts of elbowing me. sometimes it will be once or twice sometimes i wake up as much as fifteen times in one night. i have even had bruises in the morning. he has no recollection of doing this at all. i think he has very rough sleep. is there anything that can be done about it? it is really beginning to create a rift in our relationship.

I agree, get him into a sleep clinic.  I have sleep apnea which has gotten worse with weight gain. I also have restless legs syndrome and periodic limbs movements.  If I don't take my meds for the limb movements I come out of "sleep" 100 times an hour without even knowing it. It was documented a couple of times at the sleep clinic.  I do wear a C-Pap for the apnea and I take 3 meds at night, one being a pill for Parconsons(can't spell) So I won't act out my dreams at night. That is what they say can cause the periodic limb movement.  My husband gets beat up if I don't take my meds or if I try to stay with the lower dose.  I start out by playing footsees with him, then I start making walking movements, then I'm running, that changes to small kicks and finishes with a powerful kick which causes my husband to get out of bed and turn me over and soothe me til I relax. If he stays in bed to turn me over I kick even more.  I have actually woke up during these episodes a couple of times and I do hurt him and myself with the kicking.  The next day my legs feel like I've been running or working my legs too much.  Good luck with your boyfriend.  I hope he gets checked out before you need to get twin beds!

i would definetely report him to domestic violence, just kidding.  his problem is no really his snoring, is his diminished o2 intake when he sleeps, i bet he wakes up very tired and drained. he may hav sleep apnea, known to cause night terors. his orapharynx does not allow much air to go in, causing the bear like snore. i would suggest a sleep test, at a sleep center.  the test is conducted overnight, hooked up to eeg's and ekgs monitoring his brain and heart with his sleep. in the meantime, wear safety goggles worn when you play racquet ball. take care.
