what should i do

hello i have been feeling lightheaded lately even more than usual. i went to cardiologist and assures me it is not Cardio related because of all the tests i have had come back normal(stree, ekg, ecg blood wrk). i told him about tingling in left arm and weakness i am an xray tech so it could be pinch nerve cause i aslo feel it in elbow too. so he is referring me to neurologist and also a sleep study because i am reall tired and snorring really bad at night..anyway here comes my question he wants me to hold off on taking my atenolo. i only take 25 mg a day usually around 800pm. i have been on it since 11/07 so not that long. i actually was put onm Atenolo by family practice doctor but not cardiolgist. dont think he was a fan of that medicine.anyway he wants me to stop because atenolo could possibly be the reason why i have these symptoms.i guess he is trying to rule it out. I am Scared because i thought you could not just stop taking the Atenolo abruptly. because there could be a spike in BP and induce heart attack and other withdrawl symptoms. i have always folloe drs advice but not to sure about this one. What should i do? Also i just started  slowly getting back into excercising.  want to beat this and get my life back. i hate feeling like ****...i stopped smoking 5 mos  now so i am trying to take control of this hbp and overweight. if i can quit smoking cold turkey i can do anything

Since i was last on here i have been taken off atenolol for BP/Anxiety. I still have chest discomfort. I have a lot of different pains going on in my chest. Also i am pre/hypertensive to hypertensive. i am not on any medicines right now. i take fish oil and aspirin on occasion. i do have a lil refluux as well. was supposed to have endoscopy but had to reschedule. took nexium but not on it now. i have been monitoring my bp at home . goes from low to high. they highest i have seen in bp as far as sys was 168 and dia 103. but at notice at those time i was angry or stressed. anyother time br was ok . lowest i have ssen for sys was 105 and dia 75. what scares me is the jump when i am stressed. my cardiologist doesnt feel that htere is anything wrong with my heart because of good stree test echo's ekg etc. i have even been to er on several ocassion with chest discomfort. but was ok.

My family doctor wasnts to put me on a water pill and ace inhibitor. she and cardiologist feel all this is tied in with anxiety, which i agrees to an extent.I have been exercising mildly and still no smoking for 7 months now. but i feel like **** everyday. and my concern to is for light headedness as well. went to ENT did tilt table checked ears etc was ok. which brings me to several questions:

1. Not a fan of pills but should i take blood pressure meds till i lose weight. And if so are those a good choice.
2. Can i stroke out or have heart attack when my bp spike when i get mad or stressed (even though i try to relax i feel my body racing. i take ativan sometimes when i had anxiety helps but not with lowering bp
3.i am supposed to have MRI  want to check for issue (lightheadedness) what other test can i have for lightheadedness
4. last time and only time i had stress test was in Jan of 2008 should i have another one .
5. am i too your for arteriosclerosis and in the answer is no hhow can i check that
just want to feel better. i amtrying to make lifstyle changes but i guess what it all boils down to for me is..iss this all coming from Anxiety or are my docs missing something. i dont wasnt to rack up a bunch of bills but i want to know what i going on with me. Sick and tired of being sick and tired...
ANy advice

Hi,

Why do you have to get the endoscopy done?

Yes, your system does not have atenolol in all probability now. It would be ebst to keep on checking your blood pressure off and on. Are your blood sugar levels in the normal range?

What is your hemoglobin level? Are you eating well, sleeping well?

You should try to relax - you could take some OTC pain releif medications for the headaches.

Take a multi vitamin and try some light exercises - this should help with your leg cramps - you could also try some warm compresses.

Review with your doctor if you have any other symptoms and let us know if you need any other information.

Post us about how you are doing.

Regards.

so far it has been 7 days with no Atenolo. been monitoring bp slightly elevated at time like in 130-140 over 70/90 range. pre hypertensive state. lightheadedness still exsitis but not nearly as bad as when i was taking the medicine. i think now i have more anxiety about it because i am not taking nothing. just trying to fix myself with diet and exercise. but notice slight headaches not major .just curious is it safe to say atenolo out system now and headaches could be from coming off it. they are not everyday.also noticed mild leg cramping . never hwad before. i hope i dont have a clot.really nervous about no meds however want to regulate without pills. I HATE TAKING PILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am getting ready to go to LAS VEGAS for vacation and i am nervous about something happening to me. AMi i crazy or what??? can ansiety make me feel this way. oh and by the way i am supposed to have an endoscopy in sept. could this be a source of my problems to.

Hi,

It would usually take a couple of days before this med gets completely eliminated from the system. I think that 3 days would be adequate time for the drug to have moved out of your system.

I think exercising is okay as far it is not in excess and does not cause additional problems for you. Since you are already doing it under the supervision of the doctor, its should not be of much concern.

Hope this answered your query.

Hi,

To me it is unlikely that the Atenolol could be a cause of the symptom you have indicated. However, you may ask the same question to your doctor and if he plans to give you some replacement drug for the high blood pressure in your case.

I also think that the cause of the arm symptoms may be due to nerve entrapment as you described. It is also possible that you take an alternative opinion from a doctor regarding the same

Let me know if you may have any other question.

Best regards
