whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am at my wits end. I sweat all day everyday it seems. I've always been a sweater even in my teenage years. But now that I'm older it has gotten so much worse. It's so embarrassing. Trying to stay dry and fresh is so hard. My doctor wants me to see an endocrinologist. What do they do? What types of test do they give?
I have to keep a fan by me and with me everywhere I go. I work with the public and sometimes people look at me like I'm an alien and that just makes matters worse. Is there someone out there who can identify with me? I feel like I'm so alone.

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
Excessive sweating can be due to many problems like thyroid disorders, acromegaly (growth hormone disorder), pheochromocytoma etc. All these problems occur due to certain hormones produced in our body by glands called endocrine glands. Endocrinologists specialize in these types of glands and problems related to them.

I am providing you with a link that can tell you more about your problem: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/007259.htm

It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. Please discuss this with an Endocrinologist and get yourself investigated accordingly.  Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

I also have the excessive sweating but mainly from my head and face.  I was diagnosed with Sjogrens Syndrome with autonomic neuropathy.  It seems that when the nervous system goes haywire the autonomic functions like sweating go hay-wire.

I posted as "Sweaty Girl" some time ago.  Since then my doctor has allowed me to try Oxybutrol patches (3.9 mg / day).  This patch is normally prescribed for patients with unirnary retension issues but it's main side effect is the reduction of sweating.  It has made such an amazing change in my life!  I can wear the same clothes all day!  My hair doesn't get wet!  Ask your doctor about using the patch off label. The drug is also available orally but I've heard of more side effects when taken that way.  The only side effect I've experienced is a dry mouth.  When I talk on conference calls or give presentations, I just make sure I have water to drink and it's fine.
