xiphoid process
Hello there,
My mom tore her xiphoid process away from her sternum and is in extreme pain. How long does it take to heal? She went to the doctor and was given a term for her condition but can't remember what it is called. Can you tell me the terminology for her condition?
I am very concerned because she also has ostoeporosis.
I appreciate your help.
Debbie

My goodness gracious, I feel sorry for her.

These tissues are avascular, meaning they do not have normal blood supplies.

There is no way to answer this question.  Such injuries take a long, long time to heal.

I fell and injured my xiphoid process and, although the fall was not serious, I had pain for two years.

Treatment options depend on the physician, the degree of damage, and the age and general health of the patient.
