Baby with Bloody diaper Rash

My son lost his entire Large intestine to Hirchsprungs Disease after several surgury's they reatched his small intstine to his rectum. Now when he has a bowl movement wich is frequent and very liquedy and acidic he has an awful rash that is so painfull it kills me when he crys. His poor bottom looks like hamburger and he bleeds. We take him to the doctors and have all sorts of medication we use prescribed by doctors but nothing works.
He has Loperamide oral solution, pepto pink, and a rash cream/ 880 cholestyr 10% lite in aqua4.
We have tried everything and are at wits end. The poor child suffers greatly and any help would be apreciated.
It is like he has a third degree burn on his behind and scrotom.
I am afraid he will become septic.

Hi Rserp1,

One of the best treatments I have seen for excoriated tissue from body fluids is Bag Balm. Bag Balm is an old fashioned ointment used for excoriated cows utters, but don't let that scare you. This petrolem based ointment, which is sold over the counter in drug stores, has been prescribed by hospital physicans many, many times for excoriated patients. It is very, very effective with healing the area & as a moisture  barrier,

Try it in just one small area of the baby's bottom... to make sure he isn't allergic to it (which is rare)....I really beleive it will be a tremendous help for you & your son...

Ingredients are listed as hydroxyquinline sulfate 0.3%
In a petroleum & lanolin base. I comes in a 10 oz. green can with roses on the lid.

Jean, you're absolutely right.  I've recommended Bag Balm to many patients.  It sometimes takes trying many different agents to figure out the one that'll work.

Yeah, I feel for the little one since my own kids get it but not so bad.  I remember them crying after every poop, made me cry too.  ;(

sorry about your son's skin problem.......it sounds like yeast and i think the cream is not helping it. Maybe ask your physician about trying  nystatin cream to his skin 1st then apply the cholystyramine mixed with desitin or another zinc product......You need to dry out the skin well before applying......bag balm works for irritated skin also but if you dont get to the yeast first it won't work.....sometimes a pertroleum base increases the yeast......does he take baby food?  try bananas to thicken his stool as well as oatmeal cereal.....i hope this helps
