Obstipation

Obstipation

I have never in my life experienced constipation.  I had a hysterectomy four weeks ago.  I felt constipated two weeks ago and went to the pharmacist.  She suggested a liquid laxative that would work within 15 minutes to a half hour.  (She also suggested a suppository or an enema)  I opted for the quick fix.  First of all it took three hours to work.  Very little stool came out and my stomach and intestines burned for three days after.  The pain was so severe, I took a loritab (they were given to me after the surgery - I quit taking them because they made me constipated).  I took three over the course of the weekend.  I was able to return to work on Monday and by Tuesday evening I was ready for the emergency room.  I don't have insurance so I suffered through the evening - taking yet another loritab and went to the doctor the next day.  He took an xray and told me I was obstipated.  I went on a clear liquid diet for  58 hours. I had liquid stools and could feel this mass moving through my colon.  He told me to take Milk of Magnesia and eat (I have low blood sugar).  I ate a piece of pizza Friday evening and went back to clear liquids.  Saturday - I suffered from severe burning in my intestines - liquid stools - The mass moved only slightly.  When my blood sugar dropped, I ate a large can of collard greens with a little bit of bacon.  This morning, I had slight stool and did not feel like the mass had moved.  Nothing seems to have helped all day.  I had to eat an egg for protein and had a cup of noodles.  I feel like I am starving and everything will come back up.  I didn't have insurance so my hysterectomy left me with a hefty $18,000 bill.  I'm hesitant to go to the ER what do you think - Wait until the morning - or go ASAP
