Frequent UTI s

In 2003 I underwent colon cancer surgery and  I had a lot of complications during recovery. The most annoying of which is my inability to feel the urgency to urinate. I was even sent to a specialist that filled my blatter with a large bag of water, asking every few minutes "do you feel like you need to go yet?" The answer was always "no" Five years later and the problem still persists. I have to remind myself throughout the day to go to the bathroom because I know it can be harmful to hold a full blatter all day. Several times lately, I've had cloudy urine that smell almost as bad as ammonia. Are the UTI's associated with the urgency problem?
