2 months of unexplained pain in pelvic area after lap

by judahslion, Feb 11, 2007 12:00AM
I am 36 and had a complete hysterectomy 1 year and a half ago for endometriosis.  In September of 2006, the pain returned intermittently, and not as painful.  So my gyn did a lap and found nothing. Two weeks after the surgery I was cleaning my house & since then the pelvic pain is constant, sometimes is in my lower back as well and varies in intensity.  Since then I a had a cystoscopy and am waiting for a colonoscopy.  I also have-continual pelvic pain(sometimes unbearable)that gets worse with activity(esp lifting & cleaning),anemia, petekei rash on my limbs & bladder, migraine headaches (maybe from antibiotics),pain after intercourse & now constipation for 2 weeks.  As a result I am now also pretty depressed, but can not take anything for that because I take maxalt for my head.

I am assuming the hysterectomy was for pain related to endometriosis, done through an abdominal incision. The 'lap' was a laparoscopy to look for adhesions or other causes of your pain. The cystoscopy was because you were also having urinary frequency. THe diagnosis of Interstitial Cystitis is probably entertained.

If all of these above studies were negative, then it is quite possible that your pain may be musculoskeletal in nature. That is, the pelvic floor muscles can sometimes become tense after years of pain related to endometriosis, such that they develop trigger points, leading to pain, pain with intercourse, and urinary frequency. You should consider asking for a referral to a QUALIFIED pelvic floor physical therapist, who can evaluate your pelvic floor and abdominal/back muscles for treatable trigger point pain.
PLease be sure that the therapist is a specialist in the pelvic floor, not someone who will just give you Kegel exercises. Please visit:    http://pelvicrehab.com/  and
