my 5 year old daughter is currently being tested for a numerous amount of problems. She has started her period, an the doctors think that it may be gigantism, ovarian disorders, thyroid/parathyroid issues etc. As I continue to look up these disorders and try to self diagnose, I cannot seem to get any answers in these areas. Any suggestions?
Your daughter needs to be evaluated by a reproductive endocrinologist. Fortunately Dr. Plosker and Dr. Keefe have an infertility/reproductive endocrinology forum here at medhelp.org, and would be happy to answer this question.
My daughter has (MAS) McCune-Albright Syndrome, one of the very extremely rare reasons for early puberty. She was diagnosed at age 4, and she just turned 26, and doing fine. It is almost impossible to self-diagnose any of these disorders.
What I can tell you about MAS is there are 3 basic symptoms, early puberty, fibrous dysplasis (bone disorder - can be seen on x-ray by good radiologist), and "cafe-au-lait" spots - that is irregular edged birthmarks that are the color of coffee with cream. Over active thyroid and even sometimes excess of growth hormone are sometimes issues with this particular one too. Are you seeing a pediactric endocrinologist?
I worked with a large childrens non--profit for many years, working with parents of children with MAS, if you end up down that road, let me know. I'll keep an eye on this topic, to see how you are doing.
