Hi Everyone, this is a very serious matter to me and I need some help, my grandma was diagnosed with vaginal cancer about 10 years ago, she got treatment right away in a form of radiation at Stanford hospital, luckily they said the cancer was taken care of, however because of the radiation it has caused her bladder to be burned as well as her anus. Now she has a bag for her feces, however it seems that since her bladder was so badly damaged that it is leaking, causing fluids to leak into her other areas (I'm not too sure what) the doctors are saying this is causing infections and they tried to stop this by creating a bag for her urine to go into, however even with this attempt it stills leaks a little, the doctors are telling me that this leak will cause her to pass away in a matter of weeks, I find this so hard to accept after all my grandma is the person who raised me and now at 18 years old I wish i could do something to help her, however with my limited medical knowledge I can't do much. I talked to her doctor and she told me the main problem is that the bladder has two tubes that bring the urine down usually, but they can't find these tubes, if they can find these tubes they can try to stop the leaking, however if they can't find these tubes the leaking will continue...I know it's pretty hard to understand possibly, or maybe I did a bad job explaining the situation but please, any help is appreciated

THe Kidneys (up in the mid back) deliver urine into the bladder via 2 tubes called ureters. If there is damage to the ureters (e.g., from compression by a tumor) This can cause urine to collect in the kidneys, causing damage, which can be fatal. If the backup problem is occuring, A urologist can drain the kidneys directly, with a procedure called a percutaneous nephrostomy, which will drain the urine from the kidney directly into a bag on the outside. This therapy can rescue the kidney, and prevent damage. However, it is probably not a long term solution.

Please could you tell me if someone only has one kidney,and they have to perminant nephrostomy in the remaining kidney, how long is the life expectency of that person.
