PFO closure complications/distended and swollen abdomen

by nan22, Oct 11, 2008 02:03PM
I recently had a PFO closure (4days ago). I was told I would be spending one night in the hospital so that they could make sure everything was OK. I felt fine until around midnight(operation was complete at 2PM) and after they released the pressure bandage on my groin. I informed the nurse I had to relieve myself and she removed the pressure bandage w/o incident or bleeding. She then escorted me to the bathroom which at that point I felt awful, naseaus and fainted.
To make a long story short, I apparently was bleeding internally as the CT scan depicted. They brought me to the ICU
where they pumped saline into me for the next 36 hours. My cardiologist had no idea this had happened, was sorry, and told them is was vagel vein, I was dehydrated, and just needed fluids.
I was released Thursday afternoon, my hematocrit was 32.1 and my hemoglubin 10.8. IIwas told I came in with a 39.6 hematocrit, and I did lose a little blood, but now it was stable and they let me go home.
Today is Saturday and I still  feel weak, lighteheaded and my abdomen is so swollen .There is bruising. My question is why is my abdomen so swollen. It's difficult to walk as the pressure bears on my groin area as well. I lay down and then my back aches. I am thinking of calling my primary care doc, but think this is all part of the heailing process.
I have no fever. What do you think? Thank you
