PID still lingering?

by BaileyBH, Feb 27, 2007 12:00AM
I was diagnosed with PID (with an abcess (abscess)) back on the 12th after being wrongfuly diagnosed 4 days prior as messenteric adenitis and sent home on Doxycycline. I was admitted to the hospital on the 12th for IV antibiotics for 4 days and then sent home on Doxycycline 100mg 2x a day. Since the onset of the infection I have had constant bleeding. I have been off the antibiotics since Friday and am still bleeding. The bleeding is heavy for me, but not real bad (have to change pad every couple hours).I have a few questions if you could please help. My doctor's office is so busy that not only did I get a different doctor every day at the hospital, but the nurses there have no clue when I call.

1.) Does this bleeding mean the infection is still there?
2.) I had to stop the Doxy 2 days early because the side effects were intolerable. (real bad chest pain) I was on a total of 12 days including the 3 1/2 on IV. COuld these 2 days have let the infectioon return?
3.)If it DOES show its back on Friday when i go in for a ultrasound to follow up, is there any other antibiotics that can cure it other than Doxy?
4.) What would be the odds of requiring surgery at this point?

Thank you SO much in advance for any feedback. I'm scared and don't know where to turn.

Endometritis (infection in the uterine lining) can cause spotting, but usually not heavy bleeding. Bleeding can cometimes continue even after the infection is cleared. Most important with any bleeding is to ensure that you are not pregnant. Get a pregnancy test. Make sure that you know the results from your STD tests: Gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphylis, HIV, Hepatitis. Get appropriately treated for each of them that is positive (if any).

Doxycycline is one of the treatments for PID, 14 days worth. The abcess (abscess) may still be present by ultrasound even after successful antibiotic treatment.

If you are having bad chest pain, you need to be evaluated by a doctor.

To: Addtl info on above
Also I forgot to add, on the pain side. I am having just VERY mild cramping in the area that the severe pain was with the abcess (abscess). I mean like not even near period cramping. More like a little gas pain, and who knows that might even be what it is.

Thanks again!!!
