Pain with intercourse and discovered white patch of skin in vaginal area upon inspection

Female, age 55, have pain with intercourse and upon self examination found a white (almost bleached looking)patch of skin beginning at the vaginal opening and going back to and parially around the anus. Is this something I should immediately have checked or wait for regualr appt with doctor? I had a total hysterctomy several years ago.Any idea what this could possibly be?

Please have this evaluated by your gynecologist in order to get a diagnosis. It could be lichen sclerosus as lib1 has suggested, and if so, many women with the problem get relief from steroid therapy.

Sounds like lichen sclerosis.  You need to Google this and read what it says.  It is an auto immune disease that can cause pain and scarring (white patches) and narrowing of the vagina opening, anus and or urethra.  I have just been diagnosed with this and have been put on steriod cream.  Ususally Clobetasol is used.  Hope this helps
