Recovery after Rectocele Repair

I had a rectocele repair through the vagina and also a subtotal colectomy about 6 weeks ago. My questions about the rectocele repair is this:  I seem to be very painful still in my vagina and also it sort of feels like either a yeast infection or a urinary tract infection all the time. My doctor treated me for the yeast infection and it did feel better, then the feeling came back and this time he is sending me for a urinalysis. I just want to know, is this common? Is this something I will always have to deal with? He didn't seem concerned but he isn't the one that feels this way all the time. I take cranberry tablets daily to try and help also. and how long will the painful feeling last? My husband and I have not tried to have sex at all yet. I just feel to painful and can't imagine putting anything in my vagina at this point, but also don't want to put my husband off all the time either. Thank you for your time.

Sorry to read of your problem.  I would suggest you see your doctor or your gynecologist to be evaluated for possible infection & to evaluate how you are healing. It is not uncommon to have some pain @ 6 weeks but you should be getting better each week. If you are not, then you should be examined.  Most patients can resume intercourse in 6 to 8 weeks and are usually without significant pain.
