Urine leaking from the Vagina

Hello Doctor and thanks in advance for your time. What is the cause of urine leaking from the vagina? What consequences can this bring? How can urine leaking from the vagina be cured?

There may be several reasons this can occur.  The most common is after pelvic surgery such as hysterectomy.  This is called a vesicovaginal fistula and is a communication between the urinary bladder and the vagina.  It is most often repaired surgically.  Other cases such as an ectopic ureter, the tube from the kidney to the bladder, inserts into the vagina instead of the urinary bladder.  This is much more rare.  Your should contact a urogynecologist or urologist for evaluation should you be experiencing what you think is urine leaking from the vagina.
