Bacterial Vaginosis is not considered to be an STD. Trichomonas is transmitted via sexual intercourse.
I think your wife should have an explanation from the MD as to what is being treated. Please ask: "why am I being given the Flagyl?" or "what type of infection are you treating with the Flagyl?". The answer should either be "bacterial vaginosis" or "Trichomoniasis".
In your opinion would that most likely be an std? She had been tested during a pap and the doctor called in the prescription and I need to know whether or not it's an std. She had time to run tests and had already treated my wife for a yeast infection. My wife's explanation was that the multiple yeast infections caused this infection. Is that likely?
Flagyl is usually given either for Bacterial Vaginosis (an overgrowth of a certain type of vaginal bacteris which causes discharge and an odor), or for Tricomonads, which is considered an STD. Yeast infections do not cause bacterial vaginosis, however, yeast infections can occasionally be mistaken for BV (bacterial vaginosis).
