worried about cyst

by skippy611, Mar 24, 2007 12:00AM
about a month ago I was diagnosed through ultrasound with an ovarian cyst (11x9x8cm). It's not causing any pain but I haven't had a period in almost 6 months. Had blood tests done, ovarian cancer negative, testosterone, estrogen and FSH all very high. I moved shortly after the diagnosis. I have established myself with a new doctor and had a second ultrasound today. The cyst is about the same size but the tech was having trouble seeing the ovary because the cyst kept moving in front of it. After an hour or so of trying to manipulate it she said it looked like the cyst was seperate from the ovary, that it wasn't attached to it. so is it not an ovarian cyst? I've gotten totally opposite answers to every question from the two doctors i've seen. I appreciate any help or advice.

A cyst of this size (11 centimeters is about 4.5 inches)  should warrant a thorough investigation, including surgical evaluation, because of the risk of ovarian torsion, which can sometimes be life threatening. There is no definitive blood test for ovarian cancer, so you should not be reassured by the CA-125 (which is probably the test you are talking about for ovarian cancer). The cyst could be ovarian in origin, or it could be associated with the fallopian tube, which are the 2 most likely possibliities. Either way, someone needs to get a good look at it soon

Please get seen by a gynecologist at your earliest convenience

Thank you. My doctor actually called me today with the results from my ultrasound. The first one said it was a simple ovarian cyst but my second ultrasound results say that it is a embryologic paratubal cyst. My doctor didn't have a lot of time to spare all he told me was that as embryos we all start out with both male and female organs and that I have some leftover male parts. The cyst is getting smaller but he gave me the name of a surgeon to call. I would like more information but I'm having trouble finding it.
