BCG side effects followup

by littlelynell, Oct 20, 2009 10:05AM
My 82 year old father had a maintenance bcg treatment 3 weeks ago (Oct 1).  Three hours after the treatment, he became confused and unresponsive to my mom.  He was transported to the hospital and has been battling all the flu-like symptoms since that treatment.... fevers & chills, extremely weak.  Except for 1 day at home, he has spent all this time in the hospital or nursing home. Not until yesterday (Oct 19) did they check out his bladder and discover some inflamation (inflammation)/blockage. And not until yesterday did his cancer doctor stick his head in the room to do any form of followup on him. Today they are sampling his bone marrow.  Is it typical to wait this long before checking into the connection with the bcg treatment?  He is now so weak that when he is lucid, he wants to die.  I'm very frustrated with this treatment or I should say the lack of acting on these symptoms which aren't rare with this treatment.  What should I be asking them as far as the next step?  I want to be smart about this with the doctors - not confrontational.
