TC and then benign cyst

by ken724, Oct 21, 2008 06:54PM
Hello:

I was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2001 and had my right testicle removed.  Since then, I have been tested on a 6-month basis for testicular cancer markers.  In 2004, my urologist found a benign cyst on the left testicle- probably on the upper backside of the testicle.  The cyst was found after I had pain on my left testicle.  He told me there was nothing to be done about it unless the pain became severe.  He also told me that I would have to remove my entire left testicle if I wanted to get rid of the cyst and that I cannot have only the cyst removed.  My urologist had indicated that I would be experiencing discomfort typically from the cyst.  Just recently I started experiencing pain again similar to the one in 2004.  It is like a pulse that radiates or shoots out of the testicular region and sometimes it is pretty strong.  This pain would come and go for a couple of months, but since the last few days this pain is more persistent.  I am a bit concerned about this new bout of pain.  I am concerned as I have already had testicular cancer- multicell type.  My testicular cancer symptom were intense pain and swelling of the right testicle.  In 2006 I became 5 years out from my initial diagnosis of TC; however I still have bloodwork done on a regular basis and the latest performed two months back was all OK.  I am now wondering what this current pain could signal?  I am scheduled to go to my family doctor on 10/27.  I am also supposed to go to India for a 2 week trip in late December and I am wondering if this will affect my trip.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

It would be important to find out if there is any particular pattern to the pain. What triggers the pain? Are there specific body positions where you are more comfortable? What seems to relieve the pain? Is there any association with other activities such as voiding urine and defecation? It would be best to have yourself examined with an investigation as to where the pain is coming from. Stay positive.

Thank you for your response.  What are voiding urine and defecation?  My pain was originating at my testicular cyst radiating from there to my abdomen and lower back.

My family practice doctor examined my testicles me and I also got an ultrasound.  The ultrasound indicated the absence of cancer.  My doctor has prescribed antibiotics suspecting an infection.  I am about 5-11 and 240#s and I am trying to lose weight.  I suspect I might have hurt myself at the gym.  Right now, family doctor has assured me I have nothing to worry about.

Is there anything I need to look out for?  Because I had testicular cancer before, what are the chances of getting it back and also what are the chances of other types of cancer?

Thank you so much for your response in advance.
