Atypical cells are not clear precursors for cancer. A certain finding called Cis or carcinoma in situ, is a finding that essentially means “with malignant features” except that it is encapsulated (not yet demonstrating invasion). The presence of Cis would increase the risk of developing invasive cancer in 50% of patients (with this finding) within the next 5 years. Discuss the findings with your doctor, and talk about the need or the lack of a need to perform surveillance. Stay positive.
