kidney cancer

I was diagnosed with a kidney mass.  I have bee told that the only way to attack this cancer is through surgery.  Is this a fact?

By kidney mass, I believe you mean cancerous.

For cancerous lesions of the kidneys the best way till now is complete surgical removal.
Although certain aduvant (after surgery) treatment may be need in some patients depending upon the extent of spread of the disease.
