3 liter bladder

After a drug free natural vaginal delivery I lost the ability to urinate. I was not cathed for over 30 hours and when I was finally cathed I had 3 liters of urine in my bladder. I was in significant pain for several hours before a nurse cathed me. I had to have a foley for 2 weeks after devilery and then had to straight cath myself for 6 weeks after that. I'm now urinating on my own but I don't have the senstation to void, instead I rely on a timer. Why did I loss the ability to urinate in the first place and what type of problems my I incur in the future due to the trama me bladder experienced?
