Afraid of cytoscopy

Hi,
I may have interstitial cystitis and the Urologist recommended I have a scope of the bladder under anesthesia to see if I do have it and rule out polyps. I am afraid to do it. Does it hurt. Is it very invasive?

Hi,
The process involves endoscopic visualization of the inside of the bladder.
It can be carried out under local, spinal, or general anesthesia based on your preference.

You can read up about the procedure at the following link.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cystoscopy

It does involve some discomfort which you may feel for a few hours after the procedure, but the discomfort can be managed with painkillers and general measures.

Get someone to go with you for the procedure.
It is necessary to have the cystoscopy to decide on treatment modalities of your bladder condition.

Do keep us posted on your doubts and progress.
Regards
