I am a 24 year old male that had a kidney stone removed from my left ureter in early March with a scope and basket method. My urologist at the time of surgery placed a stint in the ureter and had the stint removed a week after surgery.
The surgery has been almost 5 months ago and I am still experiencing pain within my penis. This pain has been very persistent especially after intercourse, ejaculation, masturbation, and urinating. My partner and I have intercourse and masturbate usually daily. Have I not let my penis heal properly? On most days my penis discharges blood throughout the day.
I thought that this blood after urinating and after ejaculation would just "go away" on its own. After almost 5 months, it hasn't. I had great difficulties during the stint removal because I couldn't relax enough for them to pass thru my bladder and into the ureter, causing great pain and discomfort at the time of removal and after. Did they possibly have damaged something during this procedure?
Did I start masturbating and having intercourse too soon after this? I expected pain and blood to be there for a while, but not after 5 months. I have made appointments to see my urologist, but he's not one to explain things well to his patients.

Thank you for your inquiry. After a ureteral stent is placed it often causes discomfort and irratative voiding symptoms such as frequency, urgency and painful urination(dysuria). The stent may also irritate the bladder lining to cause hematuria. The pain can manifest as lower abdominal pain or pain at the tip of the penis. Once the stent is removed the discomfort/pain/hematuria should resolve in a couple of days. The procedure to place the stent(cytoscopy) can sometimes lead to complications including hematuria, urinary retention, infection. These risk are low and usually the procedure is atraumatic.
Once the stent was taken out the bleeding should resolve within a few days. The fact you continue to have pain and bleeding is worrisome. It may be a retained kidney stone, or possibly injury from the procedure (cystoscopy); again, this usually resolves spontaneously. There is also the possibility that you have an infection after the procedure. Intercourse/masturbation should not prolong or cause hematuria or pain. To further investigate the pain and hematuria a urinalysis with culture, urine cytology with repeat cystoscopy and X-ray of the kidneys and ureters(IVP,Ultrasound).
