Allergic reaction to Ciproflaxcin

by barbarino009, Sep 28, 2009 12:50AM
After the Doctor's review, he determined that I had a Prostate Infection. He administered Ciproflaxcin (pills), and I
took them for five days.  Towards the end of the fifth day, I had an allergic reaction to the medicine.  My Testicals
swoll up and had fluid seeping out the side walls of the scrotum.  I did not have pain of any kind, not phsyically or
when I urinated. I had this problem once before and Cipro did the job, no problem; but not this time.  The Doctor
then put me on steroids and it took care of the swelling and got me back to normal externally.  But I am now
experiencing  an internal ithch that I cannot handle. It is somewhat erotic, but it drives me crazy because I cannot
stop messing with it.  The itch intensifies as you try to relieve yourself of the discomfort.  It happens about 3 times
daily.  Once the itch is satified, I'm back to normal, but it won't go away.  It's been 7 months now.  I have to ice
my scotum almost with each incident to numb it.  I'm worried that this damage may be permanent.  A few days ago
I returned to the Doctor and explained my situation, and he gave me a shot of cortizone (steroids I think).  He couldn't explain what is happening, and I have a scheduled visit in Nov to tell him the results.  Its been 3 days and
the steroids have not helped.  They've taken the hives away, but that's it.

Can you explain what is happening to me and is it possbile to cure this dilema.?

Hi,
The chances of it being an allergic reaction due to ciprofloxacin seems minimal as the allergic reactions usually occur immediately after the first dose and not on the fifth day of taking a drug. It seems like some other pathology. It could be an acute inflammation of the testes which could be viral in origin (viral orchitis) or it could be a fungal infection of the perineal region and both these diseases respond to the use of steroids. I’ll suggest consulting a dermatologist for the confirmation of the diagnosis. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
