I need to schedule a TURP and want to make sure that the anesthesia is performed by a physician, not a nurse (CRNA). I realize that some CRNA's are good, but I had a terrible experience with one and the anesthesiologist who was supposed to be supervising her commented about her poor performance: "they are only nurses". Is it adequate to note this on the consent? thanks
Good luck getting an anesthesiologist, most places use the nurses (crna's) and they bill you or your insurance company as if you were attended to by a doctor. This is total rubbish. Sure, a nurse can give anesthesia, a flight attendant can fly an airliner, etc until something goes wrong. CRNA's do not have meaningful supervision, I don't care what they say. My neighbor is an anesthesiologist and has high praise for "some" CRNA's just as she has high praise for "some" anesthesiologists...but there is a quantum of difference in getting your anesthesia from an MD and from a nurse. No comparison. The CRNA that I had couldn't even do procedural sedation with any degree of competence...maybe others are better..I'll never find out,
