Thanks Dr. The Cardura was prescribed for the BPH, then the proscar was added later. In addition, I do take Norvasc for Hypertension, which is undercontrol, as far as the readings are concerned (120-130/80-84). Thans for your advice. Will follow-up accordingly.
Hi,
It is possible that the swelling in your feet (it may be subsiding when you put your feet up or overnight, and leaves a depression when you press into it) is a result of your kidney being affected and not performing at its best.
Persons with hypertension can develop impaired kidney function, which is why it is important that you seek medical care at a hospital.
At the least you should have your blood pressure checked, avoid all salt (especially if the pressure is on the higher side, drink plenty of fluids, and take your medications on time and regularly.
The problem in renal function (if present) could be due to stress or an infection, so, its best to get at least the basics done.
Do write in with any other doubts you may have and keep us posted on your progress.

Dr. Mathews, thank you for the information. A quick follow-up, if I may. Indeed, in recent weeks, when I have had situations where I have had to sit for long periods of time, such as basically all day in meetings, I have had noted swelling in my ankle. No other issues of swelling though. So, I should follow-up with a doctor, correct? My issue though is that I work out of the country and am not in an area where I can find medical help that is fluent enough in English to understand me or for me to understand them. So, any additional information and/or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Hi,
Proscar and Cardura XL are considered the best combination drugs for the treatment of BPH and hypertension.
However, Cardura XL has some side effects that may manifest as cloudy urine, burning sensation while passing urine, increased frequency of urination , etc.
If you have any other symptoms, such as swelling in hands or feet, flank pain, etc., please contact your doctor at the earliest.
It would be best to have a urinalysis done to check whether you are passing protein in urine, as that causes urine to foam and would need medical intervention.
If you only have the altered color and odor of urine, then you can do the following:
Drink plenty of fluids, in excess of 2000 ml per day.
Pass urine every 3-4 hours.
Do not resist the urge to pass urine.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
Do keep us posted on your doubts and progress.
