Awful Urinary Symptoms

Hey everyone,

I am an 18 year old male, in seemingly good health.

However, for the last 5-6 months I have had awful urinary symptoms. I bodybuild, and my problems at first started to appear to me after my workouts. After working out I would have painful urination and urine retention. The urine would only come out in short bursts. After an hour or two it would get better.

I went to a doctor and got a urinalyis and it came out clean. He told me it was probably "bacteria on my shorts". I didn't buy it, but I just took him for his word.

These problems continued. I still had these problems after working out, and occasionally at other times. I went to a different doctor, got a urinalyis and a blood test, and both came out fine. My blood sugar, electrolytes, and BUN were normal, and was the urnalysis.

And yet my urinary system still is totally messed up. It is not so much after working out anymore, but rather right after a bowel movement. Whenever I have a bowel movement I will always feel like I have to urinate too, but I push and nothing comes out. Then I sort of "release" the muscle after pushing and a little comes out. I have to repeat this for a while.

So in short I've had to deal with frequency, strong hesistation, and retention.

My parents think I am a hypochondriac and are not taking me to a urologist. I am getting so angry about my condition. I have lately been trying to figure out what this could be on my own, and I have no idea. My "solutions" keep getting scarier and weirder. This couldn't be something like spinal damage or MS, could it?Maybe its my prostate?

Hi.

Trust me, man, you shouldn't saying that. Prostatitis is really hard to cure. I have the same symptoms as you and I hope I don't have prostatitis. Read about it and you may change your mind. It's something awful. Of course it's not like cancer but it's really annoying.

Get better soon, man. See you.

Ok, thanks. As weird as it sounds, I'm hoping it is something with the Prostate.

I'm really afraid of it being Detrusor Sphincter dysinergia, as that would imply MS or other neurological trouble.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

The presence of decreased urine flow ,hesitation and straining on urination requires further evaluation of the prostate.

I suggest that you seek consult with a urologist so you may be assessed along this line. A urinalysis, and urine culture and prostate secretion culture will be able to rule out an underlying prostate infection. A complete physical examination including a digital rectal examination will be able to note any changes in the character and cosistency of the prostate gland.

Take lots of water and continue to exercise regularly. Inform your physician if you are taking any supplements.

I know 100% its not an STD. Maybe working out did it though? I'll certainly check it out

Thanks man

Unlikely?

Google "prostatitis". Prostatitis could be resulting from an untreated STD.

See you, buddy.

It probably isn't anything neurological (MS, spine), right?

I'll definantely look into the prostate. However my doc told me that would be unlikely in an 18 year old.

Hi.

I'm not a doctor but I believe there could be something wrong with your prostate.
Ask him to perform a prostate exam just to check if everything's okay.
It could be prostatitis (this is not cancer!).

See you.
