BB size lump in groin

I recently (two days ago) found a bb size lump in my left groin next to my scrotum.  There was also a red line of what looked like infection or "jock itch".  I had recently been surfing and my friend reassured me that this was only a skin infection as a result of wearing my wetsuit.  However, it has been a couple of days and the bump is still there.  Of course I am paranoid that it could be something more than just a skin infection, i.e. some sort of testicular cancer.  Any suggestions ?

If the lump is next to, and not in, the scrotum, then it is unlikely that testicular cancer is present.  I'm not sure where it is without examining you, but a cyst, infection or lymph node are possibilities.

If there is concern about cancer, a scrotal ultrasound can be considered for further evaluation.  If it is a cyst, you may want to discuss the case with a surgeon to have it removed.
