Balanitis / Circumcision / Burning sensation

by alessandro_rossi1982, Aug 29, 2009 11:48PM
I was diagnosed with a balanitis three months ago and in the course of the same week had  a circumcision done. The pathology tests for papilloma came in negative and I never found out the reasons for the balanitis.

About 24 hours ago (three months after surgery) I started to feel a burning sensation. This first came right after ejaculating. It gets worse right after I pee. I've drank tons of water today, but the pain is still there.

I've experienced this sensation before, especially after drinking a couple of beers and ejaculating later at night.
The difference today is that this burning sensation is constant. I've been feeling it for the entire day and last night (yesterday I didn't drink any alcoholic beverages).

Also, I have the impression that my penis is actually still swollen after my circumcision. For this reason, the doctor prescribed Advantan for six weeks.... I've been applying it for about ten nights.
The doctor said that the penis may look like that for life and to not worry about the swollen look... it may only be an illusion because of the kind of cut performed. He said that the penis is all healed up.

I've only had sex with one woman in the past 4 or 5 years and she was a virgin when we first had sex. I'm sure she hasn't had sex with any more people so I'm kind of positive I do not have any STDs...

Can there be any connections between the swelling and burning sensation?
Between Advantan and this burning sensation?
Between the past balanitis and the burning sensation?
What may be the reasons for the balanitis I had?
Should I still worry about the penis looking swollen or listen to the doctor and relax with this new look?

Thanks a lot.

Alex.

Hi: hope you feel good,
firstly i'd like to clarify that circumcision operation_like any other surgical procedure, may develop so many complication(studies stated approx 1.8% of that sort of operation may complicated as result of the post-discharge circumstances_almost happen with adult than babies).
I think that you shall know that you were undergone for that operation due to you had an infection at your penis, surely the incurable one, that affect the balanus {the conical expansion of the corpus spongiosum which forms the head of the penis} and that type of infection is really hazardous if you remain uncircumcised, so the risk\benefit ratio support your doctor decision.
Your troubles voice like:
1_swelling of the penis: that may be predicted complication of operation, it is called Neuroma {Destruction of the large number of the nerve-endings of the prepuce, when a nerve is cut,it swells up greatly, briefly some receptor responsible for cold/heat sensation is altered!!} so do you feel pain at ejaculation point instead of pleasure??

2_pain during peeing also is another possible complication, it is called Phimosis{narrowness of the opening of the prepuce, preventing its being drawn back over the glans} for that i think it's less possible within your case, 2 complications of circumcision is extremely uncommon.

i also support opinion of your hyper-occupations towards your penis shape!, even if there is real neuroma, it's mainly shape-altering, not functional disability.

for your question about Advantan, it's steroidal drug used to manege inflammation of your penis, its use will be not for long time, that type of inflammation is conceivable after surgical procedures as general, so do not worry, Advantan shall do good..

For your last balantitis, although both of you and your partner are not multi-sex with other, and your partner never had STD, that don't cancel that u'd like that afflict, for 2 facts:
1-most of women develop bacterial vaginosis at their life, and that is not sexually transmitted disease, it is polymicrobial flora infection, such as these infection may be symptomatic or subclinic, infection of sexual partned is not prominent, but it's possible at the same time.
2-being of uncircumcised increase risk for that infection

finally, your burning sensation shall go over with few weaks, if not, ask 4 advice, for your new look, just don't worry about it, it is just a matter of habituation......

hope i could help.

Thanks a lot for your very complete response.

To answer your question, I do not feel any pain at ejaculation instead of pleasure. Ejaculation feels exactly the same as it has always felt. I'm guessing this is good and maybe rules out Neuroma? Am I right?

Thanks for clearing my preoccupations about the new look... I honestly don't care how it looks. I just want it to be healthy and I don't mind living with a new penis shape so I'll just adopt the idea that I have to get used to it.

Last night I did not apply Advantan just in case. I will start to apply it again tonight. Is that okay?

I will see how the burning sensation develops and if it is not gone within a week or 10 days, I will consult a doctor.

I appreciate your comments very much.
It is very gratifying to know the possible reasons fro all of these issues.

Best,

Alex

After 45 year after having had a catheter in for about a year and 4 months I ended up with the first case of Balanitis. Female doctor recommended circumcision but I refused.
I was put on an antibiotic and used a topical cream for about 3 weeks. Everything healed fine and I'm still intact.
Circumcision does not cure all and there have been cases where circumcised males have ended up with balanitis. Check the web if you like.
One cause of balanitis can be diabetes. Another can be due to Candida.

It would ave to be really serious for me to give up my foreskin.

All the best

By the way I forgot to mention that I have a condition of the nervous system and had several nerves cut. Some in my fingers and ankle. None caused swelling however sensations were changed. I still once in a while have the sensation that my foot is wet when it actually is dry.

Circumcision causes more problems then what it solves. I do however agree that there are definite medical reasons for circumcision. Circumcison should allways be used as a last resource.

All the best.

Hi:
i hope you in good health:
i think that neuroma is excluded in your case,
for Advantan, don't double dose in case of forgetting, just keep you application next time.
Hi rmprdl1964, it was good thing that you was recovered from balantitis only upon antibiotics, with no need to circumcision.
quote: "there have been cases where circumcised males have ended up with balanitis"
that's right, statistic is really flexible science as its self!.
quote: "studies stated approx 1.8% of that sort of operation may complicated as result of the post-discharge circumstances_almost happen with adult than babies"
quote: "Circumcision causes more problems then what it solves"
Male' Circumcision always protect and solve problems, there are always possible complications,  that is a fact that there is no absolute rules in medecine

Hi, rmprdl1964: Thanks for sharing your experience.

Hi, Maxy_pharma: Thanks for your advice. I will apply Advantan in the usual dose. The burning sensation is not 100% gone but I feel much better. I don't feel it all day long, just momentarily and then it is gone. I'll keep an eye and go to the doctor if it persists for a week or longer.

Thanks again for all clarifications.

Hi,

When it comes to circumcision there allways seem to be two sites to the debate.

I feel that males should be able to make this decision on their own and not to have it done as routine surgery or even worse upon birth.

I had a younger brother who was circumcised at about the age of 6 due to phimosis. He was upset to find out that the separation of the skin from the glans can take place at a later age.

In today's age and time there should be very little need for circumcision.

I'm ticked off about the fact that the first thing that my doctor suggested was circumcision. In Europe (I'm from there but now in Canada) circumcision is very rare.

As long as I can, I will not give up my foreskin.

All the best

Ron
