Balanitis confusion

by balantime, Dec 08, 2008 04:06PM
I recently slept with a new partner. A few days later I started experiencing a stinging sensation on my penis. As the week went on it got worse.

I contacted the sexual partner and she has had no symptoms.

The Doctor said that it is Balanitis, Take some antibiotics.

I hadn't heard of Balanitis before and looked it up online.

I was horrified to discover that it was caused by lack of hygiene.

I am 37 years old and never experienced this before, as far as I am concerned, there is nothing wrong with my hygiene.

I am now a little unnerved and confused with the matter.

However, I think that the answer could be simple.

could this have been caused if my penis came into contact with my partners anus?
We didn't have anal sex but there could have been contact during the course.

Otherwise, what other infections that this could be if the antibiotics fail?

Hi, I think that this possibility would be reather unlikely. If you practice good hygene, then I'm sure that you clean your penis at least once a day which should be all that's required. By cleaning it means retracting the foreskin as far as it will go and than to wash your penis. Soap underneath the foreskin can cause irritation leading to other things.
If this happend shortly after you had vaginal intercourse with you girlfriend than your balanitis could have been caused by a yeast infection. It could be that your girlfiend might have had a mild yeast infection at the time.
yeast infections can be caused by a person having been on antibiotics for something. It is more comon in women then males.
It is also not uncomon for uncircumcised males to get these types of infections after having been on antibiotics.
This is what I have experienced numerous times as I had to take antibiotics to treat kidney infections.

As for this happening due to possibly having contacted the rectum, I would say that it only could happen if the penis entered the rectum. It is something that could have happened but I'm sure that your girlfriend would have let you know.

Yeast infections seem the thrive on sugars. If you do have a yeast infection, than it is important that you hand your partner get treated at the same time. Canesten works for both of you. You would need to apply the Canesten to your penis with the foreskin retracted, cover the glans, return the foreskin and coat the penis from tip to the base.

Uncircumcised diabetic males are more prone to balanitis.

I hope that this gives you some answers.

Good luck

Ron
