I am a 61 year male I have had rising psa readings in the past two years from aa
a low of 3.6 in aug.1997,psa,jan 6.2.I had a biopsy may 1998 5 neg 1 questionable site.Psa jan.1999 8.2.5 neg.1 questionable.Biopsy feb.1999 6 neg
Psa june 10.2 1999.
Is my high reading from all these Biopsy? I am up two times a night to the
bathroom.I question all these biopsy so close together.

Your PSA is high anyway you look at the numbers, and warrants a biopsy, which has been done. Infact it sounds like you have had more than one biopsy. I’m not sure of what you mean by questionable area but negative. Of course if the biopsy is questionable because of inflammatory disease or chronic prostatitis, you may follow your condition. However, if you are talking about prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia(PIN) or Atypia, I think you need a repeat biopsy. Obviously your doctor felt is was necessary to repeat to biopsy soon, so I suspect the pathology reading was not entirely benign(negative). To answer your question about past biopsy and PSA elevation. No, I don’t think that a biopsy one month ago could elevate your PSA.
You have shown a PSA trend that is quite concerning, and would be a patient that I would biopsy again. The biopsy is not fun for you, nor is it fun for your doctor. As urologists there are different calculations and fractions of PSA to help decide if another biopsy is necessary. Your doctor therefore may order a free PSA test to help with this decision.
You are now in the age range that early identification of prostate cancer with definitive therapy can cure your condition. It is this reason that your doctor is so intent on helping you. My only suggestion other than a free PSA, would be an 8 or 10 core prostate biopsy, with sections through the transition zone.
