The TURP is trans-urethral. The urinary bladder narrows down into a neck and empties into the urethra. The prostate is in a position where the bladder neck connects to the urethra, hence, a scar from an operation in this area is a possible complication.
Treatment would involve making the urethral passage wider (which should translate into improved urine flow as well), it seems a laser treatment has been discussed with you. An advantage of the laser is that it allows faster healing, and hence you would need to have an indwelling catheter for about 3 -5 days only. Your question on how long would be the stream maintained is difficult to estimate, it may be best to discuss this with your doctor. One report on laser indicate for patients who already had recurrences, laser afforded an interval of around 8-16 months.
Stay positive.
