Bladder problems after a few drinks

Bladder problems after a few drinks

I have a problem when going out w/my friends to the clubs.Lately
I have been loosing control of my bladder after a few drinks.
Sometimes after only 3 or 4 drinks.I don't know if I sleep to hard
or what's been happening.I am 32 yrs. old and this is quite embarrassing
A roomate that lived with me had the same problem. He moved out and doesn't seem
to have this problem anymore[or just isn't telling me].Could it be something I
something I am exposed to? I saw a Urologist a few years ago and
that was no help[appt. lasted 5 minutes]. PLEASE HELP !!!!!!

Dear Steve,
Leakage of urine in a male patient is not normal.  I t sounds like you have to hurry to the bathroom, and you do not get enough warning before the bladder empties.  It is true that the 4 alcholic beverages act as a diuretic and cause the bladder to fill quickly worsening your symptoms.  If you drink alcohol excessively, you may sleep "hard" and not be awakened by a full bladder as well.
We suggest a urology visit.  After the history and physical examination, a urinalysis would be performed.  Based on these findings, studies such as a bladder scan to check post void urinary bladder volume may be performed.
Finally, urodynamic studies to check bladder capacity and filling pressures while checking for bladder spasms may be performed.  These studies are invasive, however, involving placement of catheters.  If no neurologic or structural problems are found, then changes in your fluid intake , voiding pattern , or medications may be indicated.
