Broken Blood Vessel on Penis?

The other night while having sex with my partner, I believe I may have broken a blood vessel in my penis.  An area on my shaft became quite inflamed and reddish-purplish.  It didn't eventually go away, but the skin there still feels different.  Also, any time I ejaculate the coloring comes back...I thought perhaps it could have been allergic reaction from the lubrication, but it must be a broken blood vessel.  I've been trying to abstain from using my penis but will that even help?
