Bump on Penis?

Bump on Penis?

Dear Dr,

I have a quick question and I'm getting very scared. I have a "bump" on the shaft of my penis. It's a small pimple sized bump (but not a pimple) and it's underneath the skin rather than on the skin. It doesn't move around when the skin does. It's hard but I can only feel it when I'm erect but might be able to when I am not If I try hard enough to look for it.

I had a full STD panel a few days ago and everything came back negative. So I'm worried about cancer or something along those lines. I know it's hard to diagnos without actually seeing it but can you suggest what it may be? I will go see a urologist one of these days but I'm just looking for some reassurance right now.

Thank You

The STD panel is a reasonable initial step.  Blood tests looking for herpes can also be considered as well.

A cyst, folliculitis, or abscess can also lead to a bump on the penis.  A dermatologist can evaluate the lesion.

If cancer is a concern, a biopsy of the lesion, or imaging studies (like an ultrasound) would be the next step.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician, or in conjunction with a dermatologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
