Burning Issue - What is it?

I was using Clotrimazole and Betamethasone Dipropionate Cream 1%/.05% for something doctor thought was a fungal infection on shaft of penis.  This treatment seemed to work, but since the treatment, I have had a burning sensation on the head of my penis.  No burning when urinating, no redness...all looks normal.  Just a sensation as if the nerve endings are irritated.  When I go to bed and wake up, it seems to be gone.  However, the more I think about it or notice it, the worse it seems to get.  Not a painful burning at all...more like irritation that is annoying. I do seem to feel it more at the very tip when I have the urge to go.  After urinating there seems to be a bit more dripping than usual and the dripping irritates the head of penis more.  Do not seem to have frequent urination at night (sometimes I wake up once to go during night).  Flow is fine.  Have has some discomfort deep inside groin area on left side and some lower back pain.

Any thoughts as to what it can be?  Please help.

Alright... so I was  perscribed Lotrisone by a urologist for irritation at the tip of penis (urethra opening) and applied it there liberally for about 5 days (10 applications). Eventually I noticed it was getting more red and irritated so I stopped. I feel as though my skin at the tip is discoloured and gets "misaligned" all the time (the urethral opening does not perfectly match) which I think it used to! Anyways could only five days use of this ******** cause this and was I wrong to listen to my doctor and apply it there at the opening? Also, it's been about 9 months since I used it and still very irritable; will the skin eventually get back to normal and is there anything I can apply to it besides just moisturizer as I have to speed up the recovery?? Please someone answer! Where are the doctors medhelp?!

Hi, I am going through the same thing. Was prescribed lotrisone for a fungal infection and used it on the penis glans and foreskin. Have your symptoms improved? I think what you may be experiencing is a side effect of the steroid betamethasone. It is a very strong steroid that is not supposed to be used for fungal infections on the penis. I wish I had known this before I used it. It can also cause skin atrophy. The burning and redness is supposed to be temporary but can take several months to years to clear from what I have read. I hope you are doing well.

Dr. Santos,

Went to the urologist and no UTI, but he thought it might be prostatitis.  He gave me doxycycline hyclate (100mg 2xday) to use for 10 days.  I am on day 7 with no improvement in the burning sensation (still no burning when I go...just at random and a little at the tip after going).  Doc also checked prostate and did not notice anything significant...however, since that exam, I have had a tremendous "pressure" feeling behind scrotum and in area between scrotum and anus...a feeling like being constipated and having to go, but not really having to (like sitting on a baseball).  Uncomfortable, but not painful.  Got mildly better after a couple of days, but pressure feeling still there.  Also created some discomfort in both groin areas.

Any thoughts?  Just want to make sure it is not something more significant to worry about.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
How are you? The burning sensation may be a side effect of the topical medicines you are taking. It could also be due to urinary tract infection and this can be ruled out with urine tests. If it persists, it is best  that you discuss this with your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
