Can I wipe out my UTI on my own?

I have a UTI, and even though some of the sources I've looked up on the internet have told me to get to the doctor no matter what or risk a kidney infection, a lot of people have told me that they've wiped out their UTI without having to go to the doctor at all.
I was told to drink tons and tons of water to flush out the bacteria. Cranberry juice is not something I like, so for now I've just been sticking to water. Is this a good way to flush out the UTI? I caught it pretty early when I first started to have a bit of discomfort, and immediately started to drink some water. Yesterday I filled up my water bottle at school about 5 times, and my water bottle has 2.5 servings in it.

Should I continue this and hope that the UTI will go away because I caught it early?
I really don't want to go to the doctor--a lot of girls I've asked have gotten nasty yeast infections from the medicine.

Thanks for the advice!
I'm quite certain of what I have since I have all the symptoms, and have told myself that if I do start feeling feverish or have pains in my back, I will go to get help. I just don't want to make a trip to the doctor for an infection that I caught early and have been learning how to treat, coming back from the doctor with a yeast infection.

But I will see how this ends up. Thanks again!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
HI,

A diagnosis of urinary tract infection is through urinalysis and/or urine culture.  It is important that treatment is done  to prevent the infection from reaching the kidneys, which is a more serious problem.  Treatment  is done through antibiotics, that could indeed lead to  yeast infection in some cases. Continue to drink plenty of water and try to have a urinalysis or urine culture to determine the microorganism responsible and the antibiotic it responds to.

Take care and keep us posted.
