Can a vasectomy cause sexual problems?

My husband is 38 years old and had a vasectomy four months ago.  Since then he claims his orgasms are not pleasurable and he has problems staying erect.  His urologist told him that it is all in his head, which has frustrated him even more.   He takes a lot of medications for a heart condition, but the sexual problems did not occur prior to the vasectomy.  This has become a big problem in our marriage, as he feels that he has been robbed of sexual pleasure.  Can you suggest anything, other than ED medications (since they may counter-act with his current meds.)?

Although possible, it is atypical for a vasectomy to lead to sexual dysfunction.  You can consider further testing to evaluate the genitourinary vasculature (i.e. an ultrasound).

Blood tests looking at the testosterone, thyroid and diabetes can also be considered.

If either of these scenarios are present, ED medications will not be of benefit.  Treating the appropriate cause behind the symptoms would be the appropriate course of action.

You can also consider another urological opinion if the tests and treatements are not improving the condition.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
