Can't walk after varicocele surgery

by jtwslw, Jul 04, 2009 03:25PM
I had surgery to correct a level 1 varicocele on my left side 5 days ago. They made an incision next to my scrotum and performed the surgery in that manner. I was on a local anesthetic. During the surgery I was bleeding profusely and it would not stop. Finally the head doctor was called in and resolved the issue, but I will find out in 3 months weather this complication will cause me to lose the functions of my left testicle. I had to stay overnight in the hospital and was in extreme pain for the 1st two days following. I was unable to walk and it is still incredibly painful for me to walk, so I have spent the past 5 day in bed or on the couch. My left testicle is slightly swollen (not so obvious in the morning, but swelling shows around mid-afternoon). I have also had a slight fever everyday that starts around late afternoon and I feel poor for the rest of the evening. I started antibiotics immediately after the surgery and was taking a strong prescription pain killer, but now I am taking ibuprofen (6 tablets a day) and the fever is still measurable while taking the ibuprofen. For the past 5 days I have on and off experienced lower back pain and a pulling sensation in my groin area. I know that my post surgery outcome is not normal, but I don't know if I should contact the hospital or doctor to let them know of my consistent condition. Has anyone else experienced this - especially the inability to walk? I can't even walk to the toilet.
