I was diagnosed 6 weeks ago with chlamydia. I took 3 days of Azythromicin?? However, it didn't go away. I then took 10 days of doxycycline. It seemed to go away, but every few days - usually in the early afternoon - there is a little white secretion; not much, but its there. I spoke with my doctor and he thought that the prostrate might infected and that this will requiere much more intensive treatment.
I had a similar problem about a year ago, but the docter said it was a urinary infection. He prescribed some antibiotics. However, I never really determined it it was better. That is the initial symptoms were never very sever either and it makes me wonder/worry if I have had this for a very long time.
In the case 6 weeks ago, it was very acute and the tests showed up positive.
I live in Mexico and am a little distrustful of the thoroughness of the diagnosis. Can you recommend a treatment that I might try? I have read about longer periods of treatment. Which medicine is the best?
If this has been with me for a long time, how probable is it that I might be sterile or other worse symptoms? I have had some serrious joint problems too and I read that there is another symptom called Reiter's Syndrome. How can one check for that?

The antibiotics that you have taken are appropriate for Chlamydia. However, if there is an infection in the prostate, a longer course of antibiotics would be needed to treat this. If an abscess is suspected, a transrectal ultrasound can be done to image this possibility.
Reiter's Syndrome is a rheumatologic condition where urethritis is associated with eye involvement and arthritis. An HLA-B27 test can be considered if this is suspected.
These options should be discussed with your personal physician.
