Chronic Stones and Pain

Chronic Stones and Pain

I am a healthy 39 year old male. In the past 12 months I have had about 6 kidney stones form in my left kidney and 1 in my right. Three weeks ago I had Lithotripsy on my left side to remove three stones. The pain never went away. Three days ago I had a CAT scan and it showed a 3mm stone in the left and a 2mm in the right. I have a sharp pain in my left side in my kidney area that radiates to my testicles. Sometimes the pain is severe keeping me awake at night. My specialist says there should be no pain due to the fact that the stones are still in the kidney and I think my GP thinks I have lost my mind. Over the counter pain medications do nothing to help the pain. Any ideas where the pain can be coming from and any ideas on how I can convice my doctors that I am in constant discomfort?

Hello - thanks for asking your question.

You continue to have documented stones on CT scan 3 days ago.
Kidney stones typically cause pain when they are passed from the kidney to the ureter.  However, it is also possible that your continuing presence of stones is also causing discomfort.

Please note that I am not familiar with your case.  However, there should be no reason what a physician should disbelieve your pain, especially since you have documented kidney stones.  I would suggest obtaining the opinion of another physician if your current physicians are not appropriately treating your pain.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
