I am seeing a well recommened Urologist at a local hospital, whom well is very undecisive. For the past 5 mths I have had noticable blood in urine, very large ketones, unknown bacteria growth that is resistant to all meds given, pain with intercorse, lekocites countable but yet it is not an infection. Seems now my first Dx a few yrs back was cystitis now he has rulled that out and want to seek testing for cancer. Mean while treatment has stopped for the bacteria and blood and anemia is now a concern. I am only 24 and confused. I sleep alot now cause I am so tierd after a day of work and the energy to do anything is almost slim as the day progresses. I do do areobics daily in the am and am self controling on watching or decreasing weight therefore eating healthy is not an issue. Help the comfused:) thx

Dear Deanna,
I have several ideas for you. First of all, you need to trust your doctor’s thoughts and decisions until he has worked up your case completely. Secondly, if the blood in your urine is bad enough to make you anemic, this needs to be addressed immediately(IVP, CT Scan, Cystoscopy, Cytology). Thirdly, if your infections are not controlled by routine antibiotics, another source(enteric fistula, bowels, stones, bladder or urethral diverticula) need to be evaluated.
Sleeping a lot or being tired is probably secondary to anemia. At your age, cancer is unlikely, however,it does need to be eliminated as a possibility. If you are unhappy with your doctors evaluation, you can always get a second opinion. It wouldn’t hurt to get your family doctor or internal medicine doctor involved to get a different perspective.
Unfortunately, I cannot give you a second opinion without a full history and physical with review of your records.
