Hi,

I have had the procedure done on about a 4 to 6 month interval to see if things are getting better with my condition.

The procedure is not pleasant but should not involve a lot of pain or discomfort.

There indeed is a big difference between the flexible and ridget scope, I have had both. Inquire about the flexible scope since the discomfort will be less.

You can also ask the urologist to get a sadation on top of the local freezing of the urethra. You will need another person with you to take you back home since travel alone is not recommended after sadation.

Over the last couple of years I have had at least 11 cystoscopies, none of them being a problem for me. Since I can no longer drive, my wife is with me. I have been able to go shopping and have other activities right after the procedure.

You might have an urgency of urination. Drink lots of water and stay away from cafeine drinks. Even pop has enough cafeine to cause discomfort. That sad, I do like my coffee and spicy foods and even with that I have had little discomfort.

You might want to use some absorband pats to ensure yourself that urine leakage will be taken care off.

I'll be having my third cystoscopy this year next week. With the very first cystoscopy, I was nervous as well. The procedure was done with a ridget scope and an impatient urologist. After the procedure that did not even give me time to catch my breath, but even with that the discomfort was short lived. Ask the urologist to be gentile, the skill of the urologist also makes a big difference.

All the best.

I had one done last week! I am petrified when it comes to doctors so my uroligist did it in the hospital under iv sedation which knocked me out throught the procedure this wasnt general anesthesia so dont get that confused. The procedure took 20 min and before i knew it i woke up and it was over so didnt have to go through it thank gd and the recovery is a few min! I wouldnt have done it any other way so i recommend you do the same! also it depends what kind of scope hes using make sure its flexible and not rigid!

I recently had it done and it wasn't pleasant, but it was very fast! Less than a minute (but not all dr.'s are that quick). The worst part was putting the scope in (5 seconds), the rest wasn't bad at all! Good luck!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi

I understand how you feel. What is the indication for the cystoscopy ? Are you having persistent urinary symptoms?

Your urologist has done several cystoscopies in his practice and he/she understands your fears and concerns. This may look scary at first considering that you shall be lying down feeling vulnerable. However, this procedure may not be very discomforting at all when done properly and when you are at ease with everything.
