Cytoscopy - I can't face it

I have all sorts of issues - urethral warts and recovering from chlamydia with some urethritis.  So my urologist wants to scope me - some numbing gel, no meds, and in we go Buck Rogers.

In short I can't face it without being under a general, but that seems to be an option that isn't open to me.

I want the cytoscopy and I want it to be thorough, but I cannot face it while conscious, I know I can't.

What are my options when faced with an obstinate Urologist - can I insist ?

.I had one done several years ago and I had the option of general--which I took.  I don't understand why that is not an option.

No, that would not get you anywhere.  General anesthesia is not used or that.  Even in the cystoscopy room in the hospital they do not use general anesthesia for this.  You could certainly ask if he could give you Valium if you have someone to drive you home.
